In this newly created position, the Transportation Manager will be part of our Service Center located in Carteret, NJ.

Responsibilities for Transportation Manager:

In this individual contributor role, the Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day transportation operations to ensure customer satisfaction, optimal driver performance and company financial performance.

  • Support the overall service center branch strategy through efficient and timely responses to internal and external customers.

  • Plans, implements and monitors day-to-day transportation operations which includes customer service responsibilities and overseeing scheduling and dispatching.

  • Reviews orders, schedules and manpower to meet customers’ needs in NJ and NY.

  • Motivates team and handles problem resolution to achieve a positive work environment

  • Works closely with drivers to schedule and dispatch, constantly keeping safety in mind.

  • Partners and collaborates with sales and customer service.

  • Manages operating expenses, including equipment maintenance, overtime, etc.

  • Provides work direction to a team of drivers including providing performance input to management team.

  • Oversee the planning and scheduling of all equipment repair work to increase productivity, while effectively decreasing equipment downtime and repair costs.

  • Set departmental goals to align with the targets and performance objectives established by management team.

  • Participate in continuous training sessions and lunch & learns to increase industry knowledge and career development.

  • Attend trade shows, sales meetings and networking events.

  • Other duties assigned as needed.

    Requirements We Seek:

    • Minimum of five (5) years of transportation industry with at least 2 years in a supervisory role experience. Wholesale distribution a plus.

    • AS or BS highly preferred.

    • Subject matter expert in NJ/NY DOT regulations.

    • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. SAP and WMS experience a plus.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills.

    • Outstanding problem-solving skills and willingness and ability to take decisive action to overcome anticipated and unanticipated obstacles.

    • Analytical thinker.

    • Team player who thrives in a fast paced environment.
